his is one of two color pencil works
in this collection. The subject is of no special importance. I was looking for someone to
draw using color pencil and came upon this young man in an OUT magazine. The original
photo was black and white, so I decided to give the picture a golden tone. That was not
entirely successful. At this time, I wasn't very good at developing the entire work
simultaneously. Usually, I finished the figure, then I'd try to fit a background to it.
That bad habit caused real trouble here. The original background was a failure because I
wasn't familiar with the special qualities of color pencil. Still, the figure was too good
to abandon. Consequently, I cut the figure out of the original using a scalpel, then
rubber cemented it onto a new piece of paper. Then the background was put on using pastel.
The cloud effect was an accident, leading to the title.
