his portrait is of my grandfather,
done from a photo taken in 1912 when he was a teenager. I did it for my mother's 65th
birthday. My intention was to preserve the sepia tones of the old photograph. To
accomplish this, I strictly limited my pallet to variations of browns. Though it lacks the
colorful, life-like quality of my other work, the slightly out-of-focus image and stilted
pose reproduces the feel of early photography well.
